The Structure and Characteristics of a Counseling Conversation for an Academic Writing

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the structure and characteristics of a counseling conversation for an academic writing. A counseling conversation is face-to-face conversation. A counseling conversation for an academic writing has open and dynamic structures, because it is not only a conversation on the task, but also a conversation on the relation. The macro-structure of a counseling conversation is constituted of ‘introduction→inquiry into learner's writing ability→diagnosis on learner's problem in writing→prescription for improving learner's writing ability→the end’. The micro-structure of a counseling conversation is showed at the stage of the diagnosis and prescription. The diagnosis and prescription of an academic writing depends on the universal progress of writing as this. ① inquiry a rhetoric situation ② creating writing contents ③ organizing of writing contents ④ expression.
