본고는 독일의 자국어 교육 중에 교과서와 최근의 연구 동향에 대해 살펴보았다. 먼저, 독일어 교육과 관련된, 기존의 소논문들을 중심으로 독일의 자국어 교육 제도의 개괄적인 현황을 정리하고, 다음으로, 최근 독일에서 사용하고 있는 자국어 교과서 중에서 언어와 문학 교과서를 두 권 선정하여 내용의 전개 방식을 중심으로 분석해 보았다. 끝으로, 독일의 권위있는 교육 잡지의 최근 내용을 살펴봄으로써 독일의 자국어 교육에 대한 최근 연구 동향과 그 특징을 정리하였다. 독일의 자국어 교육은 외면적으로는 주마다 또한 학교급별로 각기 자 발적으로 이루어지고 있으나, 내면적으로는 공통적인 교육과정에 따라 시행되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 즉 독일의 자국어 교육은 언어의 의사소통 적 측면을 강조하며, 최근에는 간텍스트성(intertextuality )과 간매체성 (interm ediality )이 교과서 내용의 주된 이론이 되고 있으며, 학생의 적 극적인 수업 참여를 유도할 수 있는 제재와 학습 활동이 체계적으로 배 열되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 또한 학습자에게 언어와 문학에 대한 지식이 나 이론을 소개하기보다는 다양한 장르의 텍스트에 대한 감상과 독서 경험을 열어 놓음으로써 자유로운 비판력, 상상력, 창의력 등의 계발과 신장에 주력하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 독일의 교과서와 최근의 연구 주제 등을 간략하게나마 살펴봄으로써 우리 나라의 국어 교육의 현황과 비교하고, 또 수용할 만한 부분에 대해 검토할 수 있는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다. < A b s trac t > T he Germ an lang uag e education in Germ any : T he an aly sis of tex tbook and recent trends in Germ an lang uag e education re s earch .
