1. AIMS AND SCOPE

The Korea Business Review (KBR) publishes quarterly original research and business case study articles, seeking to bridge cutting-edge academic research with real-world business practice. In alignment with the publication's objectives, submitted papers and cases fall into three categories: ① Teaching cases ② Papers contributing to business practice and research ③ Papers on business education and research methodology. We also accept short papers that provide actionable insights, innovative case analyses, or novel research findings, that appear in the KBR Research & Insights section.

The purpose of KBR is as follows:

  1. To facilitate the sharing of research and related information on business education among members of the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration (KASBA).
  2. To promote the dissemination of creative and practical new methods in business education.
  3. To develop and utilize teaching cases that contribute to business education and practice.
  4. To develop and apply more meaningful research methodologies closely aligned with corporate realities.
  5. To drive innovation in business education through collaboration between academia and the corporate sector.

2. EDITORIAL REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE

The Korea Business Review (KBR) is published quarterly, with submissions accepted on a rolling basis. The publication dates are as follows: Volume 1, Issue 1 on February 28 (or 29); Issue 2 on May 31; Issue 3 on August 31; and Issue 4 on November 30.

The acceptance criteria for all papers are the quality and originality of the research and its significance to our readership. Except where otherwise stated, manuscripts are double-blind peer reviewed by two anonymous reviewers and the Editor. Final acceptance or rejection rests with the Editorial Board, who reserves the right to refuse any material for publication.

Manuscripts should be written so that they are intelligible to the professional reader who is not a specialist in the particular field. They should be written in a clear, concise, direct style. Where contributions are judged as acceptable for publication on the basis of content, the Editor and the Publisher reserve the right to modify typescripts to eliminate ambiguity and repetition and improve communication between author and reader. If extensive alterations are required, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision.

Authors may request a Fast Track review, in which case the first round of review will be completed within 10 days of reviewer assignment. Authors requesting a Fast Track review must pay an additional submission fee as instructed by the Editorial Committee.

3. PRE-SUBMISSION ENGLISH-LANGUAGE EDITING

Authors for whom English is a second language may choose to have their manuscript professionally edited before submission to improve the English. All services are paid for and arranged by the author, and use of one of these services does not guarantee acceptance or preference for publication.

4. SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts should be submitted online at https://dbpiaone.com/kbr. Authors must submit the Korea Citation Index (KCI) plagiarism check results (similarity rate of 10% or less) along with their manuscript. Two files should be supplied: the cover letter and the manuscript. The cover letter should be uploaded as a separate file, not for review, in accordance with the double-blind review process.

All articles submitted to KBR must comply with these instructions. Failure to do so will result in return of the manuscript and possible delay in publication.

  1. Manuscripts should be typed using MS Word on A4 paper, single-sided, with a page limit of 30 pages (including the abstract, tables, figures, appendices, and references).
  2. Manuscripts must include both a Korean and an English abstract, the main body, and references. For case studies, a teaching note must also be included at the end.
  3. On the first page of the manuscript, the title and the total number of pages should be indicated. However, information regarding the author’s affiliation and contact details should not be included.

Manuscripts submitted to KBR must be accompanied by a cover letter confirming that the content has not been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere, except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium. This statement must be explicitly included in the cover letter.

The cover letter must also acknowledge that all authors have made significant contributions to the manuscript and that they collectively agree on its content. Authors are required to disclose any financial support or relationships that may present a conflict of interest. Specifically, they must declare any financial arrangements with companies whose products are prominently featured in the manuscript or with companies producing competing products. This information will be treated confidentially during the review process and will not influence the editorial decision.

If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the Editor will discuss with the authors how such disclosures should be presented to readers. If any tables or figures have been reproduced from another source, a letter of authorization from the copyright holder (typically the Publisher) must be included with the cover letter, granting permission for reproduction.

9. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) DISCLOSURE

The Korea Business Review (KBR) acknowledges the growing role of AI-assisted technologies in research and manuscript preparation. At the time of submission, authors must disclose whether they have used AI-assisted tools, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, image generators, or similar technologies, in the creation of their work.

If AI-assisted technologies were utilized, authors must provide a detailed explanation in the cover letter, specifying how these technologies contributed to the manuscript. Please note that authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their submitted work.

10. PARTS OF THE MANUSCRIPT

The page limit for manuscripts, including the abstract, tables, figures, appendices, and references, is 30 pages. Manuscripts should be presented in the following order: (i) title page, (ii) Korean abstract and keywords (English abstract and keywords if the manuscript is in English) (iii) text, (iv) references, (v) tables & figures, (vi) English abstract (Korean abstract and keywords if the manuscript is in English), (vii) teaching note (for case study submissions).

Title page

On the first page of the manuscript, (i) the title of the paper and (ii) the total number of pages should be indicated. However, information regarding the author's affiliation and contact details should not be included.

Abstract and keywords

For the Korean abstract, a summary of the paper should be provided in approximately 20 lines immediately after the paper’s title, and 2 to 5 keywords must be listed below the abstract. If necessary, the original terms may be included in parentheses.

The English abstract should be approximately 20 lines in length and must fit within one page. Below the abstract, keywords must be listed in alphabetical order. The use of abbreviations should be avoided whenever possible.

Text

The main text should follow the standard structure of an academic paper, and all cited sources must be clearly referenced. The location of tables and figures must be specified, and number them in the order they appear in the text.

Footnotes

Footnotes should be placed as a list at the end of the paper only, not at the foot of each page. They should be numbered in the list and referred to in the text with consecutive, superscript Arabic numerals. Keep footnotes brief: they should contain only short comments tangential to the main argument of the paper and should not include references.

Acknowledgments

The source of financial grants and other funding must be acknowledged, including a frank declaration of the authors’ industrial links and affiliations. The contribution of colleagues or institutions should also be acknowledged. Personal thanks are not appropriate.

References

All references cited in the main text must be included in the reference list. Failure to adhere to this rule may result in rejection by the Editorial Committee, even if the paper has been accepted by reviewers. The reference list should be placed in a separate section at the end of the manuscript.

References should be arranged in Korean alphabetical order for Korean authors and in alphabetical order by family name for non-Korean authors. Publications by the same author should be listed in chronological order. The APA (American Psychological Association) style of referencing is used (examples are given below). In the reference list, references should be listed in alphabetical order. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references.

Equations

Equations should be numbered sequentially with Arabic numerals; these should be ranged right in parentheses. All variables should appear in italics. Use the simplest possible form for all mathematical symbols. Where possible, draft heavily mathematical papers in software such as Scientific Word, TeX or LaTex and ensure that the PDF page proofs are checked thoroughly for accuracy.

11. SHORT PAPERS

The Korea Business Review (KBR) accepts short papers as well. KBR Research & Insights is dedicated to concise, high-impact manuscripts that provide actionable insights, innovative case analyses, or novel research findings. We accept English-only submissions of short papers (fewer than 2,500 words) that offer significant value to business practitioners, policymakers, and scholars.

Key Aims and Scope

Submissions should address current business challenges, managerial issues, or policy implications, presenting clear and actionable takeaways for a broad readership. Manuscripts must be written in clear, engaging English, ensuring both practitioners and academics can readily apply the insights. We welcome new evidence, methods, or frameworks that push forward the dialogue in business and management—whether through novel case studies, preliminary research, or experimental findings.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Length: Manuscripts should not exceed 2,500 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).
  2. Format: Adhere to KBR’s style guide. A standard structure—abstract (max 150 words), introduction, methodology/analysis (if applicable), discussion of implications, and concise conclusion—is preferred.
  3. Language: Only manuscripts written in English will be considered.
  4. Review Process: Submissions undergo a streamlined review focusing on practical impact, originality, and clarity. Accepted works will appear in our KBR Research & Insights section.
  5. Cover Letter: Include a cover letter highlighting the manuscript’s core contribution, practical implications, and why it is a strong fit for KBR’s new section.
