사전 편찬의 속도가 빨라지고 있음에도 불구하고, 좋은 사전이 갖추 어야 할 조건은 어떤 것이 있는지에 대한 언어학적인 연구는 의외로 많 지 않다. 바람직한 국어 사전은 한국어를 외국어로서 배우는 외국인과 모어로 사용하는 한국인 모두에게 실질적인 도움을 주며, 체계적인 어 휘 교육을 실천하지 못했던 국어과 교사들에게 방향을 제시해 줌으로써 국어 교육의 발전에도 한층 힘을 실어줄 수 있다. 본고에서는 이와 같은 필요성에 따라 바람직한 국어 사전이 되기 위 한 내용적·형태적 측면에서 정립되어야 할 다음과 같은 사항을 논의한 다. 제 II장은 바람직한 국어 사전의 내용적 측면으로, 일관된 정의법을 미리 규정해야 하고, 예문은 원칙에 따라 보편 타당하게 제시하며, 단어 간 의미 관계를 머리 속 사전에 알맞게 연구하여 이를 반영하고, 문법과 통사 정보도 포함하여야 함을 논의한다. 제 III장은 바람직한 국어 사전 의 형태적 측면으로, 변화하는 대세에 발맞추어 전자 사전의 형태를 전 제하고 논의를 전개한다. 어휘 정보를 체계적으로 저장하여야 하고, 사 전 사용자에게 개방적인 검색 방식을 제공해야 하며, 멀티미디어 특성 을 살려 시각 정보나 음성 정보를 부가적으로 제공하여 혁신적인 전자 사전이 되어야 함을 논의하였다. 본고에서 논의되었던 바람직한 국어 사전이 실제로 구현되면, 교육적 으로도 많은 유용성을 줄 것이다. 사전이 교육적으로 충분한 유용성을 가지기 위해서는 사전을 교수학습자료로 활용하려는 사전 사용법과 그 교육적 효능에 대한 현장 연구도 이루어져야 할 것이다. < A b s trac t > F or the Desirable Korean Dictionaries Ju , S e - h y e on g Ev en though the tim e needed to complete a diction ary is becoming shorter recently , th ere hav e been only few lin guistic studies on th e es sential condition s th at a g ood Korean dictionary should satisfy . Moreov er , a good Korean dictionary w ould lead the Korean teacher s to implem ent the sy stem atic v ocabulary teachin g , which will enhance the ov erall Korean langu age education effectiv eness. Ch apter II of this thesis delv es into th e problem of w hat are desirable features of Korean dictionary in term s of contents . It ex plain s why it is important to hav e the predefined definition m ethod an d m ake certain it s con stant u se throughout the diction ary , to select u sages accordin g to the prin ciple th at th e lexicographer s agreed upon in adv an ce, to m ake the relation s am ong the w ords in m ental lexicon reflected in the diction ary , and to in clu de gramm ar and syntax inform ation in th e dictionary . In chapter III, form at of Korean Dictionary suitable both for th e content s that m eet the previou sly sug gested condition s , and for th e ev olvin g electronic m edium is discu ssed. In order to fully lev erag e the capability of electronic m edia, the lex ical inform ation should be stored sy stem atically , th e flexible search m ethods from which the u ser of the dictionary can choose at his ow n need should be provided, an d multim edia contents such as video or speech should supplem ent the textual inform ation . If a Korean diction ary is implem ented on the basis of the previou sly m ention ed condition s in reality , it should greatly help to improv e ov erall practice of Korean lan guage education . How ev er , m ore researches on the utilization of diction ary as a teachin g - learning m aterial and it s educational effectiv en ess are called for to fully realize u sefulness of such dictionary .
