최근에 읽기에 관련되어 나온 논문들에서는 균형잡힌(balanced) 이라 는 용어가 많이 쓰이고 강조되는데, 이는 읽기에 대한 연구에서 독자의 정의적인 면과 인지적인 면에서의 균형, 그리고 교수- 학습에서의 균형 을 뜻한다. 80년대의 읽기에 대한 연구가 주로 독자의 배경지식과 읽기 전략적 측면에 강조를 두었다면 90년대의 읽기에 대한 연구는 이외에도 동기와 사회적 상호작용에 대해 강조를 하는 좀 더 포괄적이고 균형 잡 힌 측면의 읽기에 강조를 두고 있다. 교수- 학습에 있어서도 총체적 언 어교육(Whole lan guag e)과 현시적인 전략들과 기능학습에 강조를 두는 발음중심의 언어교육(Phonics )사이의 균형에 강조를 둔 균형 잡힌 읽기 교육(Balanced Reading In stru ction )의 측면에서의 접근법이 대두되고 있다. 이에 따라 본 논문은 최근에 읽기 교육에서 최고로 쟁점이 되고 있는 주제인 균형 잡힌 읽기 교육에 대한 논의와 둘째로, 정의적 관점에서의 읽기에 대한 연구를 중심으로 현재 미국에서 진행되고 있는 최근 경향 을 소개하면서 동시에 이러한 동향이 우리나라 읽기 교육에 주는 시사 점을 찾아보았다. 139 < A b s trac t > Current tren ds in re ading e du c ation and implic ation s for K ore an lang u ag e e du c ation Kang , Hy ejeen T he current interest in reading balan ced ' is an outgrowth of the research of the 1980s that emphasized cognitiv e aspect s of reading such as prior kn owledg e an d strategic behavior s.
