Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a useful contents of a teaching reading for a good adaptation to 21C societies. For this purpose, I have reviewed lots of papers about the balanced reading teaching. In these papers, I have regarded issues about critical reading as the most important ones and I have strengthened contents for teaching critical reading. And I have showed the teaching contents of a sample text to certificate a usefulness of my suggestion. As the results of this study, it seemed that it need to regard the goal of reading as a understanding the world through books. So I suggest that it is better to stress not only a process and strategies of reading but also a result of reading and contents of a book than to stress any one side. On this base, contents of teaching reading is abstracted from three main factors : texts, contexts, and readers. For a practice of teaching these contents, a reading curriculum need to set up by text, contexts, and cognitions and a reading textbook need to be composed to three types : based on readers, genre, and theme. These all need to be distinguished by student's developmental steps.
