Choi, In-ja The task of this essay is both to explain the process of narrative thinking and to develop instruction method to improve narrative thinking. First of all, it is pointed out that the essence of narrative thinking is the thinking of hypothesis production. Next, depending on abduction theory, the process of narrative thinking is explained. It’ construction is 1) start from surprising fact 2) emplotment as hypothesis production 3) verification of narrative logic. There are three pattern abductions, such as overcoded abduction, undercoded abduction, creative-abduction. To develop high narrative thinking, it is very important to construct meaningful global structure and creative hypothesis in undercoded abduction, creative-abduction. For this goal, ‘motif’ based instruction method is very efficient. It’s procedure is to 1) establish narrative task in form of motif, 2) inquire motif, 3) embody, transform, combine motif, 4) verify and evaluate narrative logic. Especially, the category of evaluation is 1) acceptance in social cultural context 2) novelty in reasoning 3) coherence and complication in reasoning 4) economy in expression. The significance of this essay is to develop top-down expression model.
