This study aims to search for the methodology of using hypertext in teaching how to write in Korean. With the advent of hypermedia era, informing and transmitting through internet has been widespread and, thereby, some changes are being incurred in the aspects of communication. In this light, this paper examines the necessities of understanding and accepting these alterations in terms of Korean education. Moreover, it covers the characteristics of homepage writing, focusing on the juveniles' personal homepages where the communication via hypertext is assumed to be more active than any other medium.
The composition of homepage typically shows the mixture of colloquial and literary words. Besides, writers generally convey their ideas by making use of various expressional means like sound, photos and moving pictures as well as letters. In this regard, it seems that we have to take account of a simple and legible compilation so that the readers can have easier access to the computer screen. Another striking feature of homepage writing, in contradistinction to pen writing, is that it allows the interaction between readers and writers, and the sharing, openness and variableness of compositions.
With a basis on this observation, this paper investigates the hypermedia-related education presented in the high-school 'Korean Actuality' and 'Writing' textbooks on the one hand, and it looks into the teaching methods of composition centering upon personal homepages.
