Abstract
A research on evaluation system in Korean language education (hereafter KLE) are increasing recently, but we could find out only a few thesis regarding items and tools analysis. In this research, I presented several suggestions to improve some problems concerning evaluation items and tools made for the KLE in primary school, which based on surveys, interviews and examinations. All 900 people were included for the survey including teachers, student, parents and some researchers. Many kinds of evaluations are holding in the schools such as mid-term exam, final exam, monthly exam, year-end exam, quiz test and diagnostic or achievement exam of national and provincial level. There were specific contrastive features in numbers of exam-times as the scale of schools, i.e. the school which has more than 40 classes took exams much more frequently than the smaller schools. The performance-oriented evaluations were held generally 1-2 time every month. The most difficulties teachers felt is making items and criteria for evaluations.
Generally speaking, the evaluation items were successful, but there were still some problems such as validity, reliability, question sentences, insufficient text and information to solve the item and standards of scoring, etc.. To improve the problems concerning evaluations in KLE, we need to approach to evaluation system.
