The concept of creativity is not defined clearly in the discipline of Korean language education yet due to insufficient research or different viewpoint on creativity. This article reviewed three viewpoint from different study areas and tried to extract some features of creativity with regard to writing evaluation.
The creativity in writing evaluation is divided to 'creativity in process' and 'creativity in product'. Features of creativity in process are students' attributes: novelty, sensibility, flexibility, elaborateness. Creativity in product is divided to 'creativity of contents' and 'creativity of expression'. Features of both creativity are novelty and effectiveness. We must not identify creativity with novelty in writing evaluation excluding effectiveness.
The term 'effectiveness' includes various features that are accepted as properties of good text. Thus creativity is not located at the same level with the properties. It is not a criterion of evaluation but final aim to be accomplished through teaching writing.
