The Conflict of Three Families in the History of Korean Language Education Fifty Years

Abstract
It is not easy to describe briefly the history of Korean language education since 1945. So this article is written only about problems debated in its history. Korean language arts is the tool of learning different subjects. However, the skill-based language education has been criticized because of the simple use of language. The tool in language use is the tool of high level thinking. Then language arts teaching has been neglected until now. The goal of the 5th Korean language curriculum was the development of language use skill. This was criticized because of too practical language use. So Korean language culture was reflected in the goal of the 7th curriculum. The teacher education program is similar with it of department of Korean language and literature in the arts and science college. The more lectures must be open in speech, reading and writing areas. Korean grammar knowledge and literature was taught mainly in Korean language education until the 4th curriculum. Then when language use area was centered in teaching of Korean language education since 5th curriculum, different area criticized its direction strongly. Three areas contend each other their areas has the important roles in language education. However their roles should be determined depend on the school year level.
