Abstract
Yi Kiyoun This study examines the role of the Korean dictionary in the information age and the perceptions and usage patterns of dictionary users regarding its future. It analyzes the characteristics of current dictionaries to identify and reinforce what essential values the Korean dictionary should pursue. The current Korean language dictionary is mainly accessed online, so there is no limit to the amount and convenience of available audiovisual media. Therefore, the micro information covered in the dictionary has become quite diverse and subdivided, and dictionaries are being transformed into a media for actively utilizing more effective multimedia rather than for accessing language explanations. In order to strengthen the nature of the Korean dictionary and expand its convenience, this study presents guidance on how to strengthen definitions, expand usage, expand search methods using headwords, and suggest the level of information for meaning.
