To bridge the gap between “planned” and “practiced” education, this paper discusses the importance of oral history in linking written records to actual practice. The study divides the research scope into two categories: a “topical history approach” which focuses on specific educational activities, and a “life history approach” which focuses on the experiences of teachers and learners. Furthermore, it organizes the research process into five steps, from planning to archiving. This study establishes a theoretical foundation for writing a practical history of Korean language education by restoring the voices of marginalized people in the field.
