A Survey Study of University Students’ Reading Status and Perception

Abstract
In order to analyze the current reading situation of university stu- dents, this study examined data from university students among those collected in the “Readers, Non-Readers: 2018 YearBook” study. The analy- sis results are summarized as follows. First, university students were interested in books and reading. How- ever, they did not specifically recognize reading’s purpose and method. Second, they viewed a “lack of time to read” as the biggest hindrance to reading. Third, non-readers have contradictory about the purpose or ne- cessity of reading. This is a common characteristic that can be seen not only in Korean university students but also in university students from overseas.
