The purpose of this study was to examine the aspects of Korean debate culture in the basis of the theories of cultural value systems and to provide the principles for the debate instruction. In the interests of developing more about the effective application of debate instruction, how cultural value system affects the aspects of debate communication was the focus of the study. The cultural variables which are revealed in the debate communication were reviewed through the intercultural communication theories and the 3 TV debate programs were analyzed to examine how those cultural variables are associated with real debate communication. The results revealed 6 factors which should be considered in the developing of debate instruction as follows. 1) logic and emotion, 2) validity of argument, 3) logical expression and personal authority, 4) criticism and blame, 5) individualism and collectivism 6) order and rules. 【key words】 discussion, debate, debate instruction, debate culture, intercultural communication
