A Review of Media Education in New Curriculum for Korean Language education

Abstract
The fundamental purpose of Korean language education is to make students to cultivate the abilities for understanding and producing various types of text and the abilities for communicating with others and thinking. Media education aims to develop one's abilities of understanding and producing media text and to develop one's abilities of communication and thinking ultimately. Considering the similarities between Korean language education and media education, it is appropriate and efficient to introduce contents of media education in the curriculum for Korean Language.
This study is to review of media Education in new curriculum for Korean language and to give rise to issues about introducing media education in Korean language education.
The contents of media education in new curriculum is proposed the form of the achievement standard and included in the six domains ; listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, literature. In the 7th curriculum the contents related with media are usually proposed recourses for language activities. The contents of media education in new curriculum are focused on the understanding and producing media text and understanding the characteristics of media language.
But reviewing the achievement standard related with media education, some problems arise. The contents for media education are proposed mostly in the domain of listening and speaking. The contents about online media is not sufficient relatively in comparison to print and visual media. And it is deficient to compare with different media texts and approach media from a view of meta-media in new curriculum for Korean language.
To introduce media education systematically in the curriculum for Korean language education some issues rising in media education must be discussed and reserved. These are Some issues rising in introducing media education in the curriculum for Korean language education establishment of the domain for media education, the contents and instruction method of media education, relation with 'media language' as an elective course, and the support of manpower and media environment.
