The Study on Counselling about Technological Writing in a Engineering Project

Abstract
This study aimed to research specific features of writing genre which was generated in proceeding engineering & technology related project and provide a writing teaching-learning contents to students majoring in engineering & technology. For this study, we had face to face writing counselling with students. The writing genre we discussed in this study is project documents including project proposals and project reports that students in engineering & technology are asked to write. This project assignment was a team work, and project documents were written by team members in a cooperative way. This project document aims at potential buyers, individuals or corporations who are also presumed readers. We proceeded the project documents writing counselling with students in respects of writing 'The purpose of project', 'Table of contents and arrangement of diagrams', 'Wrong sentence structures' of project proposals and 'Table of contents', ‘Explanations of the required items and editions of contents', 'Wrong sentence structures' of project reports. Students in engineering & technology have troubles constructing contents and using proper expressions of words and sentences even though they know what to write. Their troubles are based on that they are not aware of specific features of writing genre they are working on. Therefore, three factors should be taught and emphasized in writing project documents of engineering & technology college. The first, students should understand the specific features of writing genre. The second, students should know how to organize contents in a process of the project. The third, students should know how to use right words in right places and to write grammatically correct sentences in their documents.
