Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate the Qualitative Measures Methods of Text Complexity for text leveling. Text complexity model suggested by CCSS for reading standards is very useful tool. Text complexity provide a common scale for measuring text difficulty and student reading ability. Quantitative measures or readability formulas stand as proxies for semantic and syntactic complexity(word length; word frequency/familiarity, sentence length and text length). But Quantitative measures are less valid for Poetry. Qualitative measures sometimes complement and adjust quantitative measures of text complexity. Qualitative factors of text complexity are purpose, language conventionality and clarity, text structures, knowledge demands. To explore qualitative measures methods of text complexity, 25 Korean language teachers assessed 9 overlapping textbook material using rubric for literary and informational text. The Qualitative measures methods of text complexity involves making an informed decision about the difficulty of a text in terms of one or more factors discernible to a human reader applying trained judgment to the task.
