Aspects of Communication Strategies in Speaking Evaluation for Elementary KSL Learners

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the aspects of communication strategies in speaking evaluation for beginner level of Korean learners. For this purpose, the definition of communication strategies, the relations between communicative competence and communication strategies, and types of communication strategies were discussed. A communication model and the evaluation criteria of communication strategies were extracted through this process, focusing on speaker’s productive abilities and listener’s receptive abilities. This study included various speaking evaluation tasks such as interviews, dialogues, and presentations because communication strategies should be served differently according to the purpose, subjects, and contents of evaluation. The research showed learners practised different communication strategies according to the context.
