Abstract
The study aims to investigate self-perception of students in teachers colleges related to writing and teaching of writing. In order to accomplish this study purpose, we conducted a survey that asked 588 students between freshmen and juniors in five teachers colleges in Korea in relation to perception of their writing and their teaching of writing. The survey results showed that the students mainly defined writing as delivery of their thinking and emotions rather than social communication. The students used writing for expressing their emotions, and thought writing is useful for expressing their thinking and emotions. Although teachers college students thought importance of writing and writing education, they thought primary school student teacher’s writing ability was not important. Teachers’ perception of their own writing impacts their teaching of writing. Therefore, teachers must be cognizant of their self-perception of writing and how writing instruction is manifested in their classrooms.
