Abstract
This study focused on the discourse effect of “confession” as a characteristic of the genre that allows student readers to cultivate and enhance reflective attitudes in poetry education. In general, confession is a characteristic of the utterance of the speaker in the poem, and the poetry reading process has been regarded as the student reader internalizing the attitude of the speaker. Receptive text, which is used as a way to check the results of appreciation, may form a conditioned response, but it should be approached as a discourse practice in that it is the result of the student reader participating in the confession act to form self-discourse. From this point of view, this study analyzed the confession content and discourse effect shown in the receptive text of the student reader and discussed the relationship between confession as an act and reflective attitude in poetry reading. Based on the above, the approach to apply it to poetry education as a moment to reflect on self-ethics by considering one’s judgment criteria beyond atonement for wrongdoing and revealing one’s pointing spot is suggested. Based on the above, it was discussed that in order to move toward discovering and expressing oneself by using confession as a moment from poetry education to reflection, it is suggested to think about one’s judgment criteria, imagine a better level and respond to value concepts as a goal.
