A Systematic Literature Review on the Research of Korean Language Education Related to Unification

Abstract
This study conceptualized all research on unification education in Korean language education as ‘Korean language education related to unification’; the work comprehensively analyzed 178 papers extracted from four databases in terms of research period, subject, area, topic, method, and resources depending on the systematic literature review. Moreover based on this analysis, implications for follow-up research were derived as follows. First, joint research with foreign researchers is essential. Second, in order to improve the utilization of already available North Korean data, it is necessary to conduct various literature studies on North Korean data itself. Third, it is necessary to expand the scope of research from school education to lifelong education. Fourth, there is a need to study customized Korean language education for North Korean defectors. Fifth, there is a need for research on how to train experts in Korean language education in preparation for unification. Sixth, comparative and integrated research contrasting the two Koreas needs to be more active in the field of communication education. Seventh, research on Korean language education in preparation for unification of the Korean language curriculum and textbooks in South Korea needs to be conducted at the overall sub-area level. Eighth, it is essential to expand the discourse of research on Korean language education related to unification in connection with the discourse of unification education. Ninth, efforts to diversify research methods are required.
