이 글에서는 작문 부진의 원인을 살펴보고, 그 원인을 파악하기 위한 진단 방법에 대해 살펴보았다. 우선 작문 부진의 개념을 설정해 보았는 데, 작문 부진은 선천적인 요인이 아니라 환경적, 교육적 요인 등으로 인해 해당 학년 수준에서 부딪치게 되는 작문 상황에서 과제를 적절히 해결해 나가지 못하는 경우라고 정의하였다. 작문 부진의 원인으로는 크게 작자 내적인 요인과 작자 외적인 요인 으로 구분하여 제시하였다. 작자 내적인 요인으로는 인지적 요인, 언어 적 요인, 정의·정서적 요인, 신체적 요인 등을 들고 각 요인에 대해 구 체적인 요소를 설정하였다. 그리고 작자 외적인 요인으로는 교육적 요 인과 가정·사회적 요인을 들고, 각 요인별로 구체적인 요소를 설정하 였다. 그런 다음 각 학생들의 작문 능력을 진단하기 위한 방법으로 결과 중 심의 방법과 과정 중심의 방법, 기타 방법으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 결과 중심의 방법은 완성된 글을 대상으로 하는 방법으로, 채점 방법으로는 총체적 평가, 분석적 평가, 주요 특성 평가 등이 있다. 그리고 과정 중심 의 방법으로는 사고구술법, 과정상 질문법, 오필 분석법, 사후 면담법 등을 제시하였다. 그리고 기타 방법으로는 관찰법, 포트폴리오법, 자기 공명촬영법 등을 제시하였다. 그 다음으로는 어떤 요인들로 인해 작문 부진이 발생했는지를 파악하기 위해 작문 부진의 각 요인별로 필요한 방법과 도구, 자료 등에 대해 간략하게 살펴보았다. 195 < A b s trac t > T he c au s e s of w riting underachie v ing and diag no stic m ethods Le e , Jae - s eun g T his article inv estigated the cau ses of writin g un derachieving and diagnostic m ethods.
