Abstract
A Case Study of Cooperative Writing:Using StoriesKang, Sook-hiThis research is intended to examine the effects of cooperative writing making use of stories on elementary school children's writing skills and attitudes. For this purpose, twenty-four(24) 4th graders in an elementary school in Seoul participated as subjects. The followings are the findings of this research:First, cooperative writing making use of stories was effective in enhancing writing skills of elementary school children. Second, there was no significant difference between the cooperative writing and individual writing groups in terms of their attitudes toward writing. These findings indicate that a writing approach making use of stories is an effective way of enhancing children's attitudes toward writing and thus, improving their writing skills. It is also demonstrated that the writing approach using stories is more effective when implemented through cooperative writing than individual writing. This study represents a preliminary effort to empirically examine the effectiveness of cooperative writing using stories in writing education.
