A Study on the Correlation between Audience Consideration Strategies of Secondary School Student Writers and Their text quality

Abstract
This study explores correlation between secondary school student writers’ audience consideration method and degree and their text level. 265 secondary school student writers-92 eighth-grade students and 173 tenth-grade students- participated in this study and they wrote the first draft without audience, revised on the first draft without audience, revised on the first draft for their teacher audiences, and revised on the first draft for their younger brothers and sisters. The researchers of this study measured secondary school student writers’ audience consideration method and degree by investigating the frequency of use PAIR strategy and evaluated their text quality by analytical assessment. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, there was significant correlation between PAIR strategy and text quality in 4 types of writing. Second, although there was small difference in statistical significance, the frequency of use PAIR strategy and 12 analytic evaluation items were related. Therefore considering of audience make an important contribution to raise text quality in terms of content, structure and expression.
