Abstract
This research reveals that contents of grammar education is actually a compound of different levels by analyzing how teaching materials for grammar are developed. The first level is ‘knowledge of grammar concept,’ which goes through restructuring as the concept is transferred from linguistics to the field of language education. It is important to note that knowledge of such concept can be effectively delivered to others only when it is properly transformed into a form of language, and the level of such transformation can be called ‘expository diagram’. The ‘expository diagram’ have serial characteristics, and thus it is effective to understand them through serial explanations. Lastly, the last layer of the educational contents is ‘story,’ and it has such a wide spectrum so that the level is difficult to be categorized. Therefore, this study will categorize the level by how ‘story’ is utilized in learning: 1. a story for motivation, 2. a story highlighting practicality, 3. a story for helping direct & indirect understanding of grammatical knowledge. The last one, a story for grammatical knowledge will be divided into ‘analogy’ and ‘narrative’ according to how it is presented.
